Forget about all the whining, wanna-be critics. Great place for a burger and a beer. And get a scotch egg.

I absolutely love this place. The craft beer selection is great and the servers are always able to recommend something new that I'll like. I've really only had salads, burgers, onion rings and fries here...but it's amazing. If I could only eat burgers from here for the rest of my life I'd be pretty damn happy. I love the atomsphere.

I got to introduce a newbie to Red Coat Tavern the other day! I've been going to Red Coat in Royal Oak for years, and enjoyed the West Bloomfield location when it was Zinc. The decor has not changed, and you can still get the amazing Zinc Burger. Honestly though, I wish they would have left it at Zinc--because that place was really special, with great food and wine. I digress. Since this was my friend's first time, we both ordered the original Red Coat burger. A half pound of fresh ground beef, grilled to perfection and topped with chopped lettuce, tomatoes and special sauce. Burgers were divine. I ordered a side of fries, which were just ok, while my friend ordered the onion rings. The rings came out hot and crispy. Taking a bite gives you a perfect outside crunch, warm sweet onion and none of that long stringy onion that pulls out of the breading like you get at some places. Best onion rings in town! Red Coat also boasts an excellent selection of craft beers from Michigan and elsewhere.

I have been to both Red Coat locations countless times and if you ask 100 people 50 will say Royal Oak is better and 50 will say West Bloomfield is better. I prefer the West Bloomfield location because it is bigger, less waiting time, and closer to home. Now to the food, I have yet to have a bad dish from The Coat. The Red Coat Special Burger has always been my go to and like to mix up the sides you can have on it. I was working in an office nearby and for my going away lunch, I choose Red Coat and it has now became the go to lunch place when the team has outings. So far I have introduced about 20+ people to the deliciousness that is red coat and have only heard positive feedback.

This place is known for their burgers. The burgers aren't cheap. They use a special kind of beef that is low in fat and cholesterol. But if your worried about not getting enough fat and cholesterol, just order the Scotch Egg appitizer. Probably the best burger in MI. FYI- This place gets pretty crowded on the weekends.

I have heard nothing but culinary praises for the menu at Red Coat Tavern, but I believe they missed the mark on an array of important things. I went with a few friends on a Friday night for food and drinks. We has to wait 20 minuets (yes, it was Friday, I expected that) without any acknowledgment from the servers to wait at the bar, nor did they try to strike up a conversation either. Once finally seated we had exceptionally rude service. The highlights were the waitress calling my friend "pretentious", assuming I and my other friend were "drunks" and then complaining when we requested to have the bill split up. I would've complained to upper management, but it would've fallen upon deaf ears. If one can stand pernicious attitude then you must have their hamburgers. Cooked to order with a wide array of condiments like blue cheese and caramelized onions. Served on a delicious roll and huge portion sizes too. They also have a wide variety of exotic (and severely overpriced) beer and wine selection. I shall not return to this location by my choice because of the rude cadence and ridiculous prices. If it wasn't for the hamburgers, they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

I just had possibly the most impressive piece of Salmon I have ever had. It was only $16.99, came with a great salad, and was prepared blackened with capers, and two amazing sides. I've recently had Salmon at both McCormick's and Mitchell's and this was undoubtedly much better. I was shocked.

Honestly, I don't go there for there infamous burger...I don't see the hype, had it once, and went meh. I've had it better else where. Where they do shine however is their pies. Chicken Pot Pie, and their soup bread bowls are pretty much the sole reason I still go to this place. It is pretty orgasmic. The only gripe with this particular place besides the over exaggerated burger, is their service. For the handful of times I have dined in, our waiters were never exactly "enthused". Rather more like throwing you the food, and give you the gtfo attitude...I'm strictly a carry out customer now.

I never frequented Zinc, but strands of it still remain in this soap opera doppelganger to the dark red smoky Royal Oak cavern. Eating a burger here felt like farting in a funeral. It was not quite appropriate, but still felt okay. The burger was pretty good but not better than the one I had in RO. The burnt onions were chewy and cold. Don't bother with the com-puh-LETELY lackluster fries. Not even the special "house" mayo could save them. The onion rings were not fresh out of the fryer (which is how they should be served IMHO). Whoever was working behind the scenes gets props for playing good music (Telefon Tel Aviv! Chicago Underground Duo!). Maybe that was a fluke. Maybe they knew I was coming.

Glad I am not alone being unimpressed with this location......granted, I went on a Sunday for lunch so it was deader than a doornail but..... Ok, the menu from Royal Oak is the exact same, but smaller...I heard they were keeping SOME of the Zinc food.....arrrrrgh. Our service was slow and when there is NO ONE really there, that is annoying. Had the fish and chips....the fries were great , as always there, but the fish...it was heavier battered than I would expect from a place like this and we were told it was enough for 2....which in reality, it probably was, but there were only 2 pieces of fish with it totally uneven in size too.....would have been nice to have a little more fish. Coleslaw was better in Royal Oak. Also unimpressed with the Scottish egg.... As I said, I was here on a Sunday and didn't get a burger, so I don't know what it's like at peak times(I imagine loud and horribly serviced). I would rather go to Royal Oak and stick with my burger...first time I was unsatisfied with the menu.... OH and we got 2 bloody marys that tasted totally different...WTF????

This place came HIGHLY recommended, but unfortunately, it was not anything special. It was your run of the mill burger that I have had countless times. The waitress said that ifwe wanted the best burger, my friend and I should go to MGM for their burger restaurant. Gee, thanks.

best burgers in the west bloomfield area - however - had to take a star away for charging $4.95 for a side of fries that aren't very good.

It's not that the food here is bad. It's not. The food here is good. But there was a unique atmosphere to Zinc (the former restaurant at this location) and the original Red Coat Tavern (in Royal Oak) that this place cannot replicate. Now it feels like a "me-too" place. It lacks the character it used to have when it was Zinc. Luckily there's a Chipotle and a Starbucks next door.

Although this restaurant may be too loud, crowded, and dark most of the time, it definitely has some of the best burgers that I've ever eaten. The service is pretty good with the exception of my most recent visit where the waitress was slow and very hard to hear over the noise. Nevertheless, the food was top notch as usual. There are so many choices for your burger toppings that it'll make your head spin--in a good way. The fries are excellent as well as the onion rings. Whenever I go we start out with the Cheese and Ale spread. There's just something about that horseradish cheesy taste that warms you up for the delicious burger you're about to devour. As previously mentioned, Red Coat does offer Piedmontese beef for $2 extra. If you're health conscious, like myself, I'd shovel out the extra $2 otherwise, just go for the normal beef. To me, the difference is almost indistinguishable. So if you can deal with the terrible parking, the noisy atmosphere, and the somewhat lackluster service then I wholeheartedly recommend grabbing a bite to eat at this restaurant. The food is well worth it. However, if you want an even more pleasant experience, go to the one in Royal Oak.

Last week, basking in my birthday glow, I wanted to eat at a nearby pub where the beer selections would be superior. My sister suggested Red Coat and off we went. It was too early for the folks that will ram your ankles with the cart from Plum Market to be in attendance. We were seated in a great booth. There were not a lot of people eating @ 4pm, ergo no noise to notice. Even better was our server, Eddie. He was knowledgeable and attentive without too much ado. His beer suggestions were good. I was delighted to see beers on the menu I had yet to sample. Appreciated how the beers were categorized on the menu as well. Made my choices easier. " You can never be too rich or too thin" was not meant to apply to chicken tenders or burgers. The flavor on the buffalo tenders was swell, but they were so thin as to lack a certain chicken flavor. I understand about the burger size. Happy it came cooked as I'd ordered. Alas, the brioche bun was a bit much for it. Must say the overall flavor was tasty and the toppings were excellent. Really want to go back to sample more beers and taste the salads and entrees. I liked the ambience. Also prefer to patronize local businesses.

I went to Red Coat Tavern on Irchard Lake Rd. The burger is the best in town. The cole slaw is one of the best I have ever had, slightly sweet and pleasingly different. The onion rings are the best in town, light and delicious the batter is scrumptious. Now, the downside: the fish and chips is overpriced for what you get and isn't even as good as Rams Horn which is 1/2 the price. You only get 2 dinky pieces of fish and average fries (the cole slaw is what saved the meal) The beer is not ice cold. It should be ice cold. I repeat, it should be ice cold. Set that temperature at 33 degrees for the patrons. The place looks a little run down unless that is intentional.

OUTSTANDING hamburgers, easily the best I have EVER had. Hyperbole does not exist in this instance. I've been to this place twice and was not disappointed. The burger had a fresh cut taste and was complemented nicely by fresh greens and a delicious cheese. The second visit I had their jumbo shrimp, and when I mean jumbo, I mean on steroids. Huge portions of shrimp and fries leave you satisfied and delighted.

Red Coat is renowned for their burgers. When you don't eat meat out, this makes things a challenge, but I was delighted to find several options on the menu. The Caesar with blackened salmon was delicious. Most outstanding were the onion rings! First time I've had onion rings and the onion stayed in place. Service was very attentive.

I think it's quite possible that there really and truly is no better burger than a red coat burger. I have heard people make accusations to the contrary, but upon discovery I have found that they really just don't know how to order. Never get one without the Piedmontese beef, always get toppings, and trust, absolutely trust, in the red coat sauce. Unreal. Now why, you wonder, would someone who loves a Red Coat burger this much give Red Coat three stars? Because I hate this location, although it's way better for me (location wise) when I need to get my fix, they seem to have their own way of doing things. They have slightly altered the usually incredible Tavern Salad. The cheese portions are inconsistent and they put herbs on the chicken. Why? Why change something that is so incredible the way it is? You really cannot do it better. All that said, it is still my place of choice for a work lunch. It's easy and it's good, as long as you know how to tweak your order so that they get it right.

Burger was just as good as the parent on Woodward. And the parking is just as bad. But don't let the parking lot fool you... There are a lot of tables so there's a good chance there isn't much wait. Wait staff was friendly, and kept the drinks filled. On the negative side, it doesn't have that same 'ancient' charm of the Woodward location. The biggest downfall I think is the fact that it's very very loud inside. High ceilings, bare floors, and no draperies contribute to a really high level of background noise..

  • Joey J.

Same heart palpitation and salivation inducing burger as the Royal Oak location without the half-hour wait to get in? Call it a win.

Same great burger as the original but it just tastes better in the older, darker Royal Oak location. And the place is a bit noisy!

The food is overpriced, but if you think about it, all restaurants are over priced. You are paying for the convenience and experience of getting out of the house and having someone prepare awesome food for you. That being said, the food at Red Coat is not awesome. I have dined here three times in the last year, and will not be back. Yes the beer is overpriced, and the food is just mediocre, but I was most disappointed in the service. We waited too long to be sat at our table (there was no one at the host stand for a couple of minutes) and our server (Deanna B) was rude, uninterested, and eager to move on to other tables who were ordering entrees (we were just having munchies and drinks). The support staff of gentleman who refilled our waters and removed plates was very helpful, though. I spoke to the manager about our terrible service and he admitted there was an issue, but did not adjust our bill accordingly. $74.24 for appetizers and beer for two is an insane amount of money to pay to be treated rudely by your server. There are too many decent restaurants with good food and awesome service to go back to Red Coat again. I've been disappointed enough.

Went on a Sunday night and it was packed. Thought I would have to wait forever for our food but the service was great and the food came out pretty quick which I was pleasantly surprised. I had the French onion Soup and it was perfect!!!! My husband had the burger and it was to die for!!! My girls split the 1/2 slab of ribs and they fell off the bone. My youngest daughter who is 10 tasted my husbands hamburger and she would not leave it alone. She just kept saying that this is the best burger she has ever had in her life. It is hard to find a place that everyone likes the food and the service is great. We are huge fans and will be back

This location isn't quite as amazing as the Royal Oak one. The menu is a bit smaller. Also, the atmosphere is not as nice. This red coat used to be a classier place called zinc. Same owners but they stopped serving the the papas fritas, which are simply the best damn fries ever. Now they serve frozen fries : ( The people who sit at the bar usuall seem like a bunch of high class douchebags and superficial gold diggers. The service is always good and the burger is just out of this world. Make sure to prepare for a food coma ahead of time and to get the raspberry-white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. The burger needs to be on an onion roll and to have zip sauce on the side if you want to get the full experiene, Read my review of the Royal Oak location for more redcoat tips !

The burgers here suck!! I LOVE the Red Coat in Royal Oak, but for some reason the burgers here are not as good. If you're craving a burger from here, just drive the extra few miles and go to the Royal Oak location. You won't be disappointed.

I love Red Coat. Luckily I live in Royal Oak, so the real one is close by. I visited the West Bloomfield location recently as its much closer to my parents and they wanted to go. Parking is much better than in Royal Oak and you will most likely have a shorter wait. Thats the end of the perks. This location just got everything wrong. The decor took a little getting used to. Not the dank dark tavern I fell in love with, but thats ok. The service was slooooow. The waiter managed to give every single person at the table the wrong food. Since we all ordered burgers...it took several bites to figure out that fun little fact. The onion rings were soggy. This is effing criminal. The fries tasted....mediocre. I ordered the same toppings I always get but it tasted completely different (even after I had the correct burger in front of me). The bacon tasted less than fresh, more chewy than crispy. It just seemed...less flavorful. One word summary: Lackluster. Make the extra drive to the RO location. Deal with the parking lot. Wait in line. Thank me later.

Was taken her by my family upon visiting Detroit. Good news - fries were well done as ordered, onion rings for table good and was told their chocolate chip ice cream "burger" was out of this world. My fish & chips? OK. Salads big enough to split when ordered with cup of soup. Waiter screwed up order a couple of times. I'd go back and give it a second chance only because people say it's good - a perhaps I should have ordered the salmon, based upon all the reviews.

This place is amazing. I went out with a friend for a girls night out. We tried a few different beers and enjoyed burgers (Amazing) and onion rings. It was as good as everyone says it is. The decor of the West Bloomfield location is classy and relaxing. I recommend it!

I went for lunch. It was slowing down as the lunch rush was at it's tail end. (2:30 pm). Hostess was extremely nice and welcoming. She let me pick where I wanted to sit. She even offered me a magazine to flip through since she knew I was dining alone. It took a little while for my waitress to appear. It took her even longer to bring my water. She was an older woman who was either ready to go home or just having a bad day in general. She took my order quickly so I figured the entire experience would move along quickly. My goal, since I was there on my lunch hour. It didn't. It took 20 minutes for my burger and order of onion rings to come out. The restaurant was essentially empty at this point. I know quality takes time but really? The waitress and the slowness were the only negatives. The burger was delicious! .

I hate that Zincs have closed & the Red Coat Tavern has taken its place, yes know the owners are the same but Zinc was wonderful, i don't care how good the Red coat Tavern burger is, it ain't zincs!!! A for that they deserve 1 star, mind you the Burger is actually pretty good & the Cuban sandwich is a holdover for that i grudgingly being them up to 3 stars, but why or why did they shut Zinc, it always seemed busy!!

Well after going back a second time, this time at 11:30am on Saturday shortly after they opened and the snobs haven't emerged from their billion dollar fortresses yet, I can say with certainty that the establishment itself is wonderful and the service fantastic. Our server Eddie was great, honestly he made the experience a good one. We chatted a bit about the location vs. Royal Oak, the beer selection, and the differences in the chowder. After deciding on the clam, Eddie figured I should try the Caribbean as well so he brought me a sample. Simply amazing. I'll be ordering that next time. We again ordered the burgers and as always they were done to perfection. Also, we ordered some buffalo wings, which if you've seen my rave reviews for a place called Eggspectations in Baltimore than you know how I feel about their hot wings...these were nearly as good as those, seriously. The beer menu is about as good as you'd find at a bar specializing in beer. Their special on draft was Weihenstephaner Vitus Wiezenbock, which Eddie had no problem keeping my glass full of at my request on an early Saturday morning (I'll drink beer with breakfast if they'll let me). Overall this experience was worlds beyond my first seeing as how I didn't have to wade through a sea of snobbery just to eat a delicious burger. As sure as day becomes night, I'll be back again, and I'll be asking to sit in the same waiters section as he clearly has a fundamental understanding of customer service.

Food is good, management is terrible. If you have a problem, don't expect the management to take care of it. My fiance had his credit card number taken by a staff member (it wasn't out of his sight other than to pay our bill). The credit card company notified him that it had been abused at this restaurant. He tried to talk to a manager but was refused when he called......twice. Apparently, he wasn't important enough to get through to a manager. The food is good, but it wasn't worth what happened to us. I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone.

The signature burger is the go to. All the best toppings, great meat flavor, and at very cheap price. Only ding is that the ghost peppers either had no heat or... They forgot to put it on my burger. Not a fan of the sides bring their own order, but not entirely sure if that's a regional thing. Clean bathrooms a big plus.

Soooooo less than impressed during my most recent visit... And I only did carry out! I wasn't acknowledged when I first walked in, so I used the restroom to give the bartender time to finish up whatever she was doing... Came out for "take 2" and after standing there a bit, she asked if I'd been helped. I gave her my name and mentioned I'm there to pick up my takeout. She said ok and then when to bus a table. A lady server came out of the kitchen and asked if I'd been helped and I said I wasn't sure, as I gave my name, the BT said "okay" and then walked away. She replied, "oh, I'm sure she's got it." Then the BT walks by and asks her if she's got my order. The server said no and went to find out who did. The matter was resolved in an acceptable time, but the service was just off. As I'm standing there, I'm realizing how dark it is in there and thought, you know, this is really not appealing at all. It's like a creepy dark, not romantic dim, you know? Makes you wonder who's lurking around the corner... The food was less than par, too! My husband and I used to RAVE about their burgers to everyone! But, it was so less than a mediocre burger that my husband said he'd rather of had Sonic burgers! I was disappointed myself and will be removing them from my Yelp bookmark list. Sad to say all this, but the truth must be told!

This is the second Red Coat Tavern, with the original one in Royal Oak. I've always liked the Royal Oak one, though it's always quite a wait there. I finally found an opportunity to try this one in West Bloomfield. First, the menu looks pretty much the same as the one in Royal Oak. Knowing this, I know the burgers are solid as usual. My kids ordered a burger to share since they have no kids menu with kids size portions. They're used to this since they offered to split the burger for us and serve it on two plates. So what happens if you only have one kid? Weird. They also split the fries. The burger (I tried a piece) was a good burger. Compared to many of the burgers that are out there these days, Red Coat has a traditional burger that's meaty and with a normal bun. Quality beef. You can customize it, and that's probably the most interesting on the menu. My kids aren't that adventurous, so they had cheese and ketchup. The fries are your typical thin cut fries. I had the salmon dinner. It came with vegetables. Nothing exciting, but it was solid. We also had mussels for a starter. It was okay as well. So, in all, it was an okay meal with nothing special about it. Not bad. Not great. From a food perspective. The service was slow. The place was crowded. The Royal Oak one was always like that. I would have thought they would have fixed the layout to improve that in the new one, but it wasn't much better. The West Bloomfield gets you the typical food that the Royal Oak one has except missing the old atmosphere, which was probably the most interesting part of Red Coat.

I go to redcoat consistently. Although I don't care for the food, I like the atmosphere. Several encounters where I got a cup with lipstick on it, one with lemon peels inside. It's just disgusting but I do go once again because Friends enjoy it for the drinks. Just be careful with your cups and silverware because I don't think it's very clean. Which food scares me too.

Come here for the Piedmontese Burgers. Its hard to believe better for you than a Chicken Breast being they taste so good. Add Rye bread, the amazing zip sauce, lettuce, tomato and mushrooms and in heaven. Waitress was super friendly and burger was cooked perfectly. I wish more places had piedmontese beef!

My wife and I have been coming here for years. Their burgers, though probably best known for them, are good. Not exceptionally great but pretty good. Their caesar salad is awesome. The variety of beers and wines is awesome. The onion rings are awesome. Service has never been an issue and seating is usually available pretty quickly.

Perhaps it just didn't live up to the hype I've been listening to for many years but this place isn't really ALL that...or perhaps it's just this location, I'm not really sure as I've never been to the other one. First off let me say that our server was great, super friendly, had some great recommendations for drinks & was very efficient. I came here for a luncheon with some people from work & most of us ordered burgers but 2 people ordered salads & I wish I had gone that route (they looked really good). The burger wasn't bad but the meat was a little dry, the bacon was WAY too thick (it was very chewy almost like jerky) & while I was impressed by the look of it when it was sat in front of me I was far less impressed by the taste as the meat didn't have much flavor. I ate 1/2 the burger (it's huge & too thick) and ended up throwing the other 1/2 away a couple days later because I forgot about it...if it were as amazing as I'd expected I wouldn't have forgotten about it! The mac & cheese was really good & the bun the burger was on was really good but for the prices they charge (pretty much no burger topping is free) it wasn't all that. I would consider checking out the Woodward location but I don't see myself coming back here...I didn't have to pay for this particular meal so at least I now know that I wouldn't pay for it on my own.

One of the worst experiences ever... No gluten free menu? I ordered "smoked Scottish salmon"... Ringed in pepper, nothing on menu said "peppered". Told waitress.. "I'll tell the manager." She brought the bill, never asked if I wanted anything else. Manager never came over... I asked "why didn't you ask if I wanted anything else?" "Oh, you said you were done. Sorry." We will never go back. Bad service & a manager that didn't care...

I came here for lunch and I ordered a traditional 1/2 lb burger, fries, and a soda for $18. The burger was filling and tasted good, but not extraordinary. After all, it is still just a burger. The fries were ordinary and likely came from a bag of frozen fries. Overall, not worth the money.

They have the BEST mac and cheese. I also get the Cornwallis (grilled). It's one of my favorite meals and not to mention- the creme brûlée yum!

  • Tony C.

The food here is delicious! And to be honest not really overpriced. The burgers are great (I'd say top 3 I've ever had in Southeast Michigan)! They're juicy, full of flavor and their topping choices are excellent. If you go with someone else no need to get your own fries or onion rings. There is enough to split. I took one star away for the actual seating setup. Because the place isn't very large every table seems on top of each other. It's a maze to get to the bathroom or back to the door. Personally I think they stuffed too many tables in too small of space. The second star is removed because of the douchey wait staff. If Yelp was an app for rating douchebags this waiter would get a five star rating. This is a nicer burger place. You don't need to act like you work in Royal Oak with the bros. mannerisms and words scream douchebag. And you can see he same thing from the other waiters.

I am not complaining person , but it was not good , I came after recommendation from friends for drinking and having some appetizers , but the waitress was rude and let us feel unwelcome , the weird thing , that when I asked her about the wifi password , she refused to give it to me and said we don't have it !!!! The food was good and delicious and the interior design looks nice and warm but the light was little bit low The rest room is not so bad , any way I didn't feel comfortable there

This used to be one of my favorite local places. Great food, excellent service, just a good time over all. I decided I wanted to celebrate my Birthday there and was trying to make reservations for 25 people. I was told that they don't take reservations and suggested for myself and my guests to arrive and hope for the best. I thought it would be a good idea to chat with the owner to see if there is any way he could accommodate a large group since it's guaranteed business for him. While sitting there waiting for the owner, I witnessed a jaw dropping conversation between owner and customers. He basically told them he doesn't need their support and can care less if they will come there again or not. After seeing that, I changed my mind about talking to him or having any kind of events there.

Best. Burger. Ever. I love it. Love the fries, too. Would like more light. It always seems dark in there. Sometimes hard to get a table. Service decent, some waitstaff could be friendlier. But the burger is worth it all.

I don't understand all the love for this place. Dark and dingy decor, greasy food and what's so great about their burgers?!!? They are bland with way too much lettuce on them.

Hey Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore. I knew I was going to a fancy restaurant when some of the reviews for this place said things like, "It's decadent and delicious". I love going to nice restaurants but when you're in the mood for a burger, fries and a beer this will never be my first choice. Six o'clock on a Saturday. This place was flooded with patrons stopping off at the valet, and walking in from every direction. I would have sworn there was a great meal deal inside. I went here by myself to get the bar experience and try one of the most recommended burgers in the area. As busy at it was I walked straight into the bar and grabbed a stool. Ordered a domestic which is only available in bottles. I received the menu. Nice looking and some excellent fine dining choices like Filet and Perch and some good looking salad options. Since I came here for the bar experience I had to go with what everyone in the area calls the best burger. A good old fashioned Red Coat Original burger, a half pound with american cheese. The fries are an additional side. The food came real fast, with six minutes, The Burger: Nice tasting fried burger. Not much seasoning at all if any. Thick, hot but not real juicy and kind of dry. The burger lacked the taste of grill that had been churning out burgers and missed that "burned" in grilled taste. The Fries: Exactly the same same size and shape as McDonalds. Hot, but very little taste. Just okay. The service was good since I was at the bar and the keep was always there. I was out within forty-five minutes as I watched the Belmont horse race, I was pulling for California Chrome for the Triple Crown...oh well. Not enough televisions in the bar area. Soccer on one and the horse race on the other and small. This restaurant had a the feel of a very "trendy" new place. Very pricey! A burger and fries was $13.10. Throw in a $4.00 domestic and this extremely high, plus the tax and tip. I may come back here for something else next time when it's not so trendy but not for the burger as I have tasted many better ones than this one.

Red Coat may be the best place to get a burger but for myself redcoat is the best place for french onion soup! I have been to a bunch of places and anywhere that offers an onion soup is a must try for me. Nothing comes close the Red Coat. The steak bites are always amazing and cooked to perfection. I am not much of a burger person but their burgers are really great too. They give you options to build your own burger and they have really good meat. Although their food is great, I give them two stars due to the owner's behavior. I have never experienced an owner as rude as he is. I live in an area which is heavily populated with Chaldean people who loved to support local businesses. It's unfortunate he claims he does not need any Chaldean people to come in to his business and help his business excel. I have witnessed the owner in action a few times which I have seen parties get up after being extremely disappointed in his response. I have seen a gentleman get up from his table and scream to the restaurant about what the owner's response was to him which was not a response you would want to hear from a owner of a restaurant that you are providing business to. I love Red Coat's food and it sad that I will probably never go there again due to the lack to respect the owner has for his customers.

One of the best burgers in the metro Detroit area. Some tips - get the Piedmontese, all toppings are .65-1.50 extra except for anything onions - I suggest smoked Gouda, bacon (it's thick cut!), burnt onions and definitely the zip sauce!

Had dinner Thursday evening. Wait was 20 minutes. No problem. Took. 10 minutes to get a server for drinks. Irritating. Ordered food 20 minutes later. No problem. Ordered Mac and cheese, perfect as usual. Had a burger with fries and everything on it. Perfect. We ate and enjoyed the food. Wanted to leave, but had to wait 20 minutes for server to return with the bill. Infuriating. In closing, if you like excellently prepared food and also enjoy ridiculous service this is the place for you. Things need to be tightened up!

Very good selection of speciality beers, like Urthel HOP-IT "the hoppist beer in America", VERDI Imperial stout from Italy. Great burgers too!

Red Coat Tavern is one of the best place where I can get a good turkey burger. Turkey Burger is delicious. The regular fries and the onion fries are a must try. Clam Chowder are also amazing. Service was great, the wait wasn't long.

Red coat has been a longtime favorite for my family. Their clam chowder is the absolute best i've ever had! My go to turkey mount vernon is delicious and I crave it all the time, but most everything i've had at either location (Royal Oak and West Bloomfield) has been fantastic.

Red Coat Tavern is one of my favorite places around! I love the atmosphere! They have a great beer selection, and although their wine selection isn't extensive, the wines I've had are always really good. I'm not sure if I like their drinks, the atmosphere, or their food the most. I've eaten here several times and have never had a bad dish. They also have my all time favorite burger. On top of this, their prices are excellent. Now for my one complaint...they are no longer open on Sundays. For whatever reason Sunday is the day I always want to go. If they would fix that, it would be perfect!

Me and my kids loooooove this place they always order the filet mignon its tasty and juicy and i love the steak bites and burgers and onion rings. Everything is sooooooooo delicious. And good service too

Came here Monday with my parents as none of us had ever been here. We were one of the only tables in the building so it was nice and quiet. Seated right away. Drinks: Their drink list is really nice for beers. They offer a variety of Christmas ales that actually make me want to go back to try them. Both of my parents had one and they enjoyed them, although different beers. Food: We all got the upgraded beef. I don't know what they got on their burgers, but I do know both of them enjoyed their burgers very much so. They also liked the onion rings, which I didn't eat so I can't say my opinion. I ordered the upgraded beef with a fried egg, burnt onion, fresh jalapeño, and no bun or mayo. I didn't really use the lettuce or tomato either because well, I didn't. The burger itself was cooked nicely and the toppings were definitely fresh, but the real kicker were the burnt onions. I burn all of my vegetables on purpose at home so this was something that made me so happy. I have no complaints about anything at all. It just looked a little dirty inside or something. If I didn't want to make a burger at home I would choose this over five guys or any other burger place in general. Especially for the price. I thought the price for the quality, and location, was more than fair.

I frequent this restaurant. It is definitely not what it is hyped up to be, buts it's still pretty good. If the service was better, I would probably never go to any other restaurant just because it is open late and in a convenient location. You should note that services is HUGE to me. About a week ago, though, I had an experience that left a really bad taste in my mouth. We arrived, put our name in for a table and waited about 45 minutes for a able, although we were promised a table in 10 minutes. Seems like a typical issue when eating out, so I'll disregard that. Our server clearly was having an off night because the first thing that happens after we sit, is he spills a glass of water all over me (I was drenched). I felt sympathetic and told him not to worry after he apologized. Once. With 0 remorse. In fact, he thought it was funny and laughed over the fact that the bottom of the glass broke right as the it hovered over my menu. I was speechless. My burger was cooked wrong even though I made it a point that every time I go there, my burgers were always over-cooked. The ingredients on my burger were not what I ordered. Not to mention, my friends salad came out wrong, and when he finally came around to our table and she told him politely that she didn't order bacon on her salad, he didn't say two words, didn't even look at her, before taking he salad back. I'm not including all of the other 50 mistakes he made, and even in his defense I told everyone to be fair--maybe he was having a bad day. I get my check only to find that even my bill was incorrect! Like I said, it left a bad taste in my mouth and to me, a restaurant can have the best food, but if the service is sucky, they are nothing.

Mmmm redcoat. When I crave a good burger I go here. It's not your average burger. Something about it is just sooo darn good. They just need to pay close attention to how they cook it because most of the time it's always more overcooked than I'd like it to be. Yummy fries (identical to McDonald's fries). Delicious ranch dressing! That's really all I ever order when I go there so I can't judge much on the rest of the menu. I don't like the hot fudge cream puff though. The fudge tastes blah. The Mac and cheese is yummy but it's basically all grease/butter. I took leftovers to work the next day and after microwaving it, the noodles were sitting in a pool of grease. It really grossed me out and I couldn't eat it know how bad that must be. The creme brûlée is delicious.

Very dim setting, but nicely done. This pub/burger place seems to be known for their burgers. The burger itself seems to be a 1/3ish pound burger with chopped lettuce and tomatoes with mayo/onion. You could add things to it such as egg, bacon, mushrooms, onions, etc. I added grilled onions and zip sauce. The zip sauce is really good; sweet, tangy and just a tad bit (too) salty as well. It's kind of like a gravy-like taste with a very slight kick of soy sauce and salt. I ordered the burger medium rare, and it came perfectly that way. Excellent! I got shoe string fries as well (~$4). They were fine. I actually liked dipping it into my zip sauce. Weird? Maybe, but I liked it. My friends got the mac and cheese, and noted that it was heavily salty. Thinking about giving it a 5 star, but let's roll with 4 for now. Until next time!

Can't understand why this place is full of attitude repeatedly from the hostesses to some of the servers! Food is good but you really need to have both in order to have a good dinning experience and therefore to come back! Not sure if I will.

  • Veronica M.

Love this place! Try and sit at the bar because the servers and bartenders are honestly some of the nicest, hard working, and accommodating people in the industry! Kudos Bashir and Aaron! My favorite thing on the menu is the filet mignon! It truly is perfectly cooked every time with an accompaniment of mashed potatoes and veggies...and all for 20 bucks!!! The burger is also an excellent choice and my drinks are always made perfectly, really very satisfied!

I had heard fabulous things about the original in Royal Oak, so I was quite excited to see this location so close to our house! I have tried to like it as much as everyone said I should, but...meh. The burger, even when you order it with the Piedmontese beef, is just ok. I don't know it's worth the price. Onion rings are good, but greasy. The Cobb salad is huge. My biggest complaints are the lack of parking, the noise level, and the fact that it's always as dark as night in there. Lights are good. I still have to try the Royal Oak location, so hopefully it's better.

    (2)
  • Mel T.

I have been coming here and the original in Royal Oak for years. Sadly this location has never been kept up with good help and consistent food like Royal Oak. Over the last two years I have noticed a big slide in service. There are a few older woman waiting tables who act like they don't want to be there and give awful service. No personality. The food don't know the beer selections and rush you. This is a huge turn off and is also getting worse however you must keep in mind this is Detroit. Most independent restaurants went out of business several years ago so it's this place or Olive Garden. I think the locals have also had an effect. The Nuvo rich party store / gas station owners that have over run West Bloomfield has probably contributed to the sour staff. This and the Boneyard are all you have to choose from unless you prefer a Stage deli.

On a warm weeknight, Redcoat Tavern was packed with guests on the patio and milling outside. The dining area was also filled with families and friends meeting happily over good food. There were many tempting items on the menu but I was craving burgers, a featured item of the restaurant. I typically like bacon, cheddar and avocado on my burgers and that evening was no different, even though there was a wide range of toppings offered to accompany the huge half-pound burger. And unlike many restaurants, I was able to order the burger medium rare, instead of the mandated medium so commonplace at many places. I have to say, the burger was as good as recommended, incredibly fresh, tasty, and juicy - one of the best that I ever had. Did I mention juicy? As in, run-down-your-arms juicy? Let's just say that there is a reason for the stack of napkins left at the table. The mac and cheese looked good but I went with the onion rings. An excellent choice, in retrospect. They were perfect - just how onion rings should taste: hot, crispy, well-seasoned. The portion, like the burger, was huge, enough for dinner the following evening. Service was friendly and attentive and combined with the food definitely merits a return visit. Soon.

Burger was good, and paired with their zip sauce it's unreal!! Good stuff. Also had their scotch eggs which were also great. I'd love to go back and try more items on the menu.

Best burgers in town! They offer an extensive build it yourself burger option with countless toppings, but really you can't go wrong with the Redcoat Burger as is. Definitely upgrade to the Piedmontese beef - it's lean, juicy, and delicious! Their fries rival McDonalds - skinny, salty, and cooked to perfection. Its a little pricey for a burger, but quality and taste can't be beat! We often order take out because this place can get very busy especially on the weekends!

  • Sarah C.

Don't let anyone tell you differently, this one is nowhere as good (food and ambience) as the original in Royal Oak, but they're getting better. There's just something that's slightly different than the two that gives this one a 3 star and the original a 4 star.

Came in for an early dinner while in the area (mostly because of my love for the Royal O location) and it tainted my association with the Redcoat name. What I have always heard is true this location is far inferior to Royal O's eatery. First point off was the terrible parking situation. I had to park towards the rear of the lot and to my surprise the restaurant itself was not that busy. Perhaps employees should park in the rear and leave the better spots for guests! Second point off was the smell when you enter which had that musky like smell from a gym or something. Third point off the burger was NOT like Royal O's! Did not have that creamy finish to it, that freshness in the Pied beef you know what I'm talking about if you've had it right! The dried piece of whatever on my plate when the food came out did not help matters. Onion rings too greasy. Disappointing when you think you got a great thing coming and get this. Lesson learned.

Great Burger, Great Experience. I began going to the Red Coat Tavern about 10 years ago, the Woodward location. The tradition of great burgers, wonderful draft beers in a warm environment lives on. I enjoyed a perfectly cooked burger with a generous bowl of coleslaw. Combine that with a nice IPA on tap and you get a happy customer. If you are looking for a great burger and a welcoming environment, the Red Coat Tavern is the place for you.

Unfortunately I've had the opportunity to live in big cities and eat good food. Not sure why people recommend this place! The burger had no salt added to the meat - overbland, and the sautéed mushrooms came from the can, and the Swiss must have been old(?) since it had zero flavor. Sad this couldn't have been our new "burger place".

My friend and I met up here on a Friday after work. Don't even bother thinking you'll find a parking space! There were 5 people in line to valet and only 3 parking spots left. I had to park next door at Chipotle. The wait wasn't too long. Thankfully we were seated in the back. It's much smaller and more secluded. I hate tables right on top of each other like in the main dining room. I really don't care to hear the person's conversation right next to me. Way too loud for my taste and everyone decided it was a great night to bring their screaming babies. I had the rustique salad. Very delicious. Cucumber, tomato, kalamata olives, and huge cubes of feta. I can't remember what the dressing was but it was amazing! Only downside was that the salad was $14!!! When we left the wait time was ridiculous! I would not recommend going here on a Friday after 6pm.

Awesome bar service and food; I am not too sure about the hostess though. I ordered macaroni and cheese to go. I was offered water while I waited and I received the food within a reasonable time. I'll be back again for sure.

This is CRAZY! I ordered a chicken sandwich and it was NOT COOKED all the way! It was RAW and PINK in the middle! I did NOT want to get sick so I asked the waiter to cook it some more because I didn't want to get sick. He told me the chefs left and it was 1:30am. They advertise that they serve until 1:40am. The manager came to me yelling and said I can not take the food off in slang! I NEVER asked for my food to be taken off... I am not one to try to get anything for free, I expect good service and I don't mind paying more for it! This was one of the worst restaurant experience EVER! And I payed for a sandwich that I didn't even eat!

I was very pleased with the burger and the entire meal. The burger lived up to the hype and the service was quick for a Friday evening. I also thought the prices were just right. Great food, great service and a good price. Nicely done.

Good but not great. Looks like it is closed even when it isn't. The food is not as good as the royal oak location. So ehhhhh maybe try it with low expectations.

    (3)
  • Linda M.

Looked forward to experiencing the burger, it was buried in the lettuce sauce and lost the burger all together. I'm sure it was a child's portion of meat. Disappointed although I have been to Royal Oak location and it was excellent. Why the discrepancy in quality?

    (1)
  • Kelly S.

The onion rings, yes indeedy bob the onion rings make me wanna put a ring on it. The burgers...ehh not so much, they weren't bad but just a little bland. I'm a bit fussy when it comes to burgers so I guess it is an unfair critique. I like a little flavor in my burger, not those "Eddie Murphy Raw" burgers full of green peppers and onions but some smokey woestershirey garlicy something. With that said, it's worth a visit, and get the onion rings!

  • Ken Z.

Had lunch here today. Of course went with the burger which is 1/2 pound. Comes with lettuce, tomato and onion mayonnaise which they call burger sauce for $7.65. I ordered without the mayo, but added guacamole ($8.50). Guac comes in a little container on the side, but is enough for the burger and was quite tasty. Fries taste like McDonald's ($4.65). Onion rings are greasy/crunchy in a good way ($5.75). Food 3 1/2 stars. A little overpriced. No kids menu i.e. not a smaller burger for younger folk. Server was spot on so I'll round up stars today.

First time here, and I had very high expectations. While the valet service is great, and took care of my Lambo, the food was average. The burger wasn't as amazing as I had hoped for. I did like the outdoor seating. I'll probably be back again, but I know it won't be the juicy, luscious, yummy burger that I imagined.

I have eaten here a few times. Food is decent, nothing special. The service is interesting however. The goal seems to be to get patrons in and out as quick as humanly possible. Might work at lunch time but I don't care to be rushed like that.

If you are craving for burger then you are in the right place. Love the fries and burger in this place. The service is ok, atmosphere is family type mainly couples and old aging ppl, so its not the place for happy hour.

Redcoat is easily my go-to for any occasion, a girls night out, dinner with the family or just grabbing dinner and drinks with my boyfriend. Everyone makes it so easy to just sit back and enjoy your time here. I've tried close to everything on their menu, you can't go wrong period. The blackened tenderloin tips, calamari, salad rustic, and build your own burger are some of my favorites. Their zip sauce is heaven!

  • Natalie T.

Had a great burger, but was disappointed I paid almost $10 and it didn't even come with fries or a side. We took our 2 young kids, which we were a little nervous about having never been there, but the noise level helped cancel out any noise from our table and the staff was great and friendly. However, they don't have a kids menu, which was a little disappointing. Overall, I'd go back again, but probably for a date night. Enjoy!

We went to dinner with some friends. Had to wait about 20 minutes, which we expected. We had drinks, appetizers, and dinner. The service was great. A few of us modified our meals due to food sensitivity. The food came exactly as we ordered! Perfect. Looking forward to the next visit.

I absolutely LOVE red coat. I find myself comparing every other burger in town to theirs. It's just the best burger anywhere. Their staff is awesome, food is hot and fresh, and prices are great for the quality you're getting. Love it and recommend it to everyone.

LOVED it as Zinc and still love it as Redcoat!! Best bartenders. Great food and service. Great selection of wine. I think the Brassiere Burger is better than the Redcoat Burger! Salmon dinner is awesome. Good fries-crispy and great onion rings!

By far the absolute best burger I've ever gotten out to eat! I ordered a burger cooked medium with bacon, Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato, their special sauce on top of a crispy baguette. I kid you not, it was the best I've had anywhere! The onion rings were also the sweetest, crispiest and most delicious onion rings and this is coming from someone who normally doesn't care for onion rings! The fresh onion soup was also awesome!

I had heard that this location does not live up to the one in Royal Oak. But I was hoping that this was mythology. Unfortunately, I have to agree with the consensus. I think the RO location is better. First of all, I should have remembered that Zync was a loud place. Well, when they changed over to Red Coat, they seemingly did nothing to the acoustics to fix this problem. We were sitting next to a table that was having a liquid Dinner and they must have suffered from hearing loss associated with the alcohol consumption. They were screaming at painful levels and I think most of the restaurant was screaming as well. I hate to go to places like this. You can't hear the other people at you table unless they are willing to scream at the top of their lungs, and I like to enjoy casual conversation at Dinner. I removed a star for this. I ordered a cup of spicy fish chowder because it was raining outside and I thought a cup of chowder would compliment the Burger The chowder was nice and spicy, but way over salted, and I like salt.. The Burger I ordered wasn't bad actually. I think the Burgers in RO are better though. It was just OK. The Onion Rings while nice and hot, were terribly greasy. I usually don't mind a little grease, but these were way too greasy. I think they need to adjust the temperature of their oil. The others in my parry ordered fish dishes and they looked pretty good. Nobody really wanted to share my Onion Rings with me, after sampling just one, probably because of the grease factor. So this Red Coat location gets a two star "meh". All could be fixed if they want to. They need some acoustic fixes, a burger lesson from the RO location, less salt in the soup and an adjustment to the deep fryer temperature.

I went there for lunch today and had the Brasserie burger...my experience started with the one hostess that did not dress like she would charge taking me to a table, then chatting with the server with her back to me while I stood there waiting for them to move so I could sit. I almost walked out at that point. I have to say, to pay almost $10 for a burger...it must be a good burger, and this one wasn't!! Honestly, the new cheeseburger at Big Boy is better than this completely tasteless thing. My brioche was burnt around the edges and had that acrid taste, the carmelized onions were tasteless...and I don't know what type of mustard they use, but apparently it's the kind with the flavor sucked out of it. Also, why bring a burger with so much stuff that it is falling off...I took the bacon off and ate it separately...the best part of my meal. I do not like the type of fries they serve, and my Arnold Palmer looked more like water than tea. Of course, all of this for about $18!!! No thanks and never going back, EVER!!!

This place is great for after work to grab a drink and a bite while rubbing elbows with some great people. I enjoy the fact that the staff is well informed, offering wine selections and knowing the menus (beer and food) like the back of their hands. The bartender here (tall black guy, forgive me, forgot his name) suggested a great wine and kept my glass topped off! He was very attentive and overall just super pleasant. When I go and sit in the dining room I still tell the others at the table about him and how excellent his service is. Happy hour here is great, but beware, there are always a few gold diggers dressed to the nines from head to toe looking to get chosen by some rich guy clogging up the bar area. LoL Try the burger and the mac and cheese. Will not disappoint!

I'm surprised by all the mediocre reviews for this location- I have always had a great time at this location. In some ways, I enjoy this location better than the woodward location. The Good: -This locations decor is way better and cleaner than the woodward location. -Minimal wait and better parking- I can recall numerous times where I can't even find a parking spot at the woodward location and had to leave for this reason alone. - A really nice outdoor seating section- I really enjoyed sitting out there in the summer. - BEST ONION RINGS EVER. -The braisserie burger. I typically split this burger and an order of onion rings- Perfect amount of food. Love the bun, love everything about this burger. I order this burger almost every time. - I honestly forgot what kind of salad it was but I think it may have been a roasted vegetable salad or something... Anyway, it had whole roasted beets on it and it is amazing. -Late hours... You are not going to find many places on orchard lake that are open till 2 am... - Relatively different beer menu- tried some unique beers last time- not terrible. The bad: - A tad snobby. Definitely got a whiff of some terrible perfume and hair gel at this location. - The seating isn't terribly comfortable. I try to sit on the booth side whenever possible. The burgers and late night hours are what keep me coming back.... Enjoy and get full on burgers and beer.

If your idea of a good time is forcing down mediocre food while trying to listen to your friends over the incessant braying of the self-important nobodies who populate these Orchard-Lake-Road-South-Of-Maple establishments, then swing around to Red Coat Tavern and let the good times roll. As for me, it might be true that I've moved past the overly-genteel Red Coat of my New England youth, but short of losing my hearing and my sense of taste altogether there's no way I'll ever go back to this West Bloomfield hellhole. A couple of my favorite and most trusted Yelpers seem to like Red Coat a lot, so my distaste for the place might be an overreaction. I don't think it is.

The Royal Oak location will always be superior in my eyes, but this location is definitely worth going to. The Piedmontese burger is always an awesome choice but my new favorite is the salmon salad. It's not always on the menu, but they will always make it when you ask. It has grilled salmon, Granny Smith apples, toasted honey walnuts, blue cheese...mmm delish!

I want Red Coat Tavern to know that I hate them for opening a location so close to my work. Now I can go there anytime for lunch, which is dangerous. Anyway, what more can I say? It's the best burger in Metro Detroit. I always get the classic burger medium with cheddar. You can get fries and onion rings, but why bother when you get such an enourmous burger? The single servings of fries are so big that they are good for 2-3 people. Now the burger itself is like heaven on a bun. I don't know how they do it. So much flavor, but it doesn't sit in your stomach like a rock as there is virtually no grease. I love the giant dill pickles that they are served with aas well. I could eat three of them in a sitting. The service at this location is fabulous, and I have never waited for a table at lunchtime. What are you waiting for? GO!

Went to dinner here with 6 other people last night and it was overall a great experience. It took less than 15 minutes for us to get a table and then our awesome waitress (I think her name was Dee, she had a short black pixie cut) offered us drinks right away and helped me decide on a mojito because I was too tired from work to pick myself. The mojito was delicious. One of my friends got an Old Fashion and she was pleased as well. For an appetizer, I got a Scotch Egg and it was such a salty tasty masterpiece. I then followed with The Brasserie Burger and onion rings. Both were amazing! My friends also got a smattering of other burgers, the fish and chips, a full slab of ribs and the shrimp dinner and everyone was happy with their meals. I also stole some of a friends sweet potato fries and they were scrumptious! Then to top it off the waitress was willing to split the check a couple ways to help us out. Like I said, a great experience overall :)

I love the Red Coat Tavern...even though the one in Royal Oak is the original bomb, I love the ambiance of the West Bloomfield location. Heart the burgers, fries, drinks etc. Bartender Aaron was very personable and had no problem letting me try some of his shot experiments. I wish I was there when Craig was working (only in town for a few days) but it was his birthday, so I understand. When I come back to Michigan, I will make sure he is there and ask to sit in his section :)

Considering the owner has bashed Chaldeans and the way some Chaldeans make a living I will NEVER EVER step a foot in there. Owner: "I dont need Chaldeans and their Liquor store Money" PAH LEEZE! You wouldnt even be open if you didnt have us Chaldeans supporting your place! So honestly, he can stick it where the sun doesnt shine. And my fellow Chaldean/Store owners...... The wish they can be like us. Thats why they HATE. SO DO NOT SUPPORT THIS PLACE! Such a shame.... the biggit had wonderful Salmon! LMAO!

After reading the reviews I really wanted to try this delicious burger. I was disappointed with it and my entire experience. My burger was really JUST okay. Nothing special at all. Nothing worth remembering, definitely not worth going back. Don't get me wrong, nothing was nasty, just nothing special at all. It was really just a burger. I would say for the future if I want a good burger I would probably go a few doors down to Smashburger instead. The fries were okay, I don't think that too many restaurants can mess up fries, but these weren't hot, back to my just okay message. The onion rings were ok, the batter was good, it was the beer batter they use on fish and chips, but was missing seasoning. Had to add a little salt. And also they don't give anything to dip them in. This could have been a bad night for our waitress, maybe she was overwhelmed with the 3 tables that she had, but she wasn't good at all. I would give her 1 star. And she would get that since she brought the food to the table. She only came back to check on us after we were clearly done eating, had to flag her down for water that was never brought to the table. She truly left a lot to be desired. Overall, my experience was definitely mediocre. I don't think I would go back unless it was someone else's idea and they didn't want to go anywhere else.

I was looking forward to the burger here after having been to Royal Oak many times. Went at lunch but no lunch specials. I ordered the coleslaw but they brought out a little scoop of it. RO always brought out a heaping dish of it. It is almost $4. When I asked about it she stated that the servers dish it out in RO, the kitchen does it here. She took it back but the kitchen said they could not give any more. I asked to have it removed from my bill. The burger was good but not as good as I remember. The bun was wet, I think coated oil. I will never go back to this location. Seems more like a place to be seen and not much else.

Been here before food is good but was very very disappointing on the LAST visit. My son and I asked for a table for six my wife was coming over to meet us with the rest of the family the hostess told us we couldn't sit to the rest of the party showed up I told her this is find they are coming right behind us we can sit and start to order drinks and appetizers, she said no the whole party has to be here and then gave our table away to another group behind us the restaurant was full so we would have to wait about a half an hour to get another table. my wife showed up with in 3 mins and I told her lets just go somewhere else were they appreciate the customers. Never again this is one of those places that is busy now I hope they close soon. VERY RUDE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

Get the blackened Steak Tips for an appetizer ! One of the best appetizers I've ever had in my life. Philly cheese steak is ok, 3.5/5 on that. The roast beef just doesn't work. I also have had a couple burgers there that were amazing. One was just a custom bacon cheeseburger, the other was one of their house specials w/ carmelized onions/bacon and a few other things, started with a B ? IT was amazing. I've been to a couple gourmet places in Chicago and this place had the best burger I've had.

Redcoat Tavern is home to the tastiest burger in Metro Detroit. As a big burger fan, this is quite the claim. Redcoat has two locations: the original in Royal Oak and this newer edition in West Bloomfield. I personally like the West Bloomfield location due to its larger size, less wait time, and nicer ambience. Try the Piedmontese burger with smoked Gouda cheese, grilled onions, and mushrooms......the BEST. The Mac and cheese is also spectacular. As a Mac and cheese connosour, this is definitely one of my top two favorite places to get this dish.

Went here last night with 4 other friends and had a fantastic time. When we arrive we were told that it would be about a 50 minute wait (it was a Saturday evening), but when we went into the bar to get a drink a table cleared and so we sat in the bar the whole night, which was really enjoyable. It had a very nice warm feel to it and was and lively without being so loud that we had to shout to talk to each other. First and formost I have to mention our waiter Bashir who was awesome. He picked up right away on the fact that we enjoyed good beer and wine and kept suggesting different things for us to try one or two of which weren't even on the menu yet. Not only were all of his suggestions very good, but his overall service was fantastic. He was very attentive and totally on-top of everything, he even swapped out out water glasses for fresh ones when he noticed all of our ice had melted. The food was also very good. I got the Tavern Salad which was seriously one of the most amazing salads I've ever had. The port poached pears were amazing and it also had a melt in your mouth creamy hazelnut stilton on it. My boyfriend had a sandwich and the other guys with us had burgers which they all said were amazing and I tried some of their thin cut fries which were super tasty. I was also surprised that the food wasn't too pricey. We did end up running up a pretty big bill, but that was because we were drinking (the drink menu was extensive). Overall I was very impressed with this place and will definitely be going back.

Awesome clam chowder soup, burgers and they make their own potato chips fresh! There drinks are really good as well. Everytime i have been to Red Coat in West Bloomfield and the one in Royal oak i highly enjoy myself. The wait staff is professional and know the menu back and forth. If you are looking to chill out after a long week and or eat some good food come to Red Coat.

The food was good i had a burger it was good, but not the best burger I have every had. The Prime rib was good too. But The Caribbean chowder was amazing. I asked about the key lime pie but they were out. The bartender was great I told him to make me something and he asked me a few questions. The drink was amazing I dont even know what he used. Overall nice place would come back again

I went here for the burgers and I was not disappointed. It is the best burger in the state of Michigan and top ten nationally. I used to go to the Royal Oak location, mostly for beers and I finally made it to the West Bloomfield location on a business trip back to the Mitt and loved it. Very different feel from the Royal Oak location, but that is OK. Like any amazing burger the sum is greater than its parts. The use a special, healthier meat, (don't worry they have a dipping sauce that adds all the good tasting, bad for you stuff back), and the offerings are unique not because they are trying to be, but because the combinations work. The beer list is a nice compliment to any of the burgers and the bar (which is where I ate), was full and a fun vibe. To Recap: The Good: The Burgers. Can't go wrong, if you are connoisseur of the most American of dishes, check this place out (either location). The Bad: Your BMI & LDL levels. You may want to go Vegan for the week before you go to balance out what you are about to consume. The Band This Restaurant Most Resembles: The Rolling Stones. A British Import that Americans love.

We've done Red Coat twice in one week... and I'm feeling the urge to return soon. Our first time was Black Friday lunch. We arrived before noon and pretty much had the place to ourselves. The interior is a lot of dark wood and close tables, but the wall of windows allowed the sunshine in. The drool-inducing menu made it difficult to narrow our selection, so we were pigs. We split a Scotch Egg and a bowl of the Clam Chowder. The egg was very good, with a thick coating of tasty sausage. The dipping sauce was a nice compliment. The chowder was also good, but not swoon-worthy. We each got a burger and split an order of onion rings. Before I dive in to the burgers, I have to tell you these onion rings were the best I've ever had. Puffy, perfectly crisped beer batter, with a thick but tender onion inside. Perfection, dipped in Ranch dressing. Ok, for the burgers... I went medium-well, with Swiss, sauteed mushrooms and their burger sauce (which is garlic mayo). Medium-well was dry (our waitress told me medium was more pink than most places... but I would have preferred medium, especially after trying Ken's). Ken's medium had Cheddar, a fried egg, lettuce, tomato and the burger sauce. He was saddened when, during his first bite the yolk broke and dribbled on to his plate (he hadn't expected soft yolk or else he would have planned better... not sure how). Even with the richness of the egg and the more rare patty, I still preferred the overall flavor of my topping choices. We both rated 4 stars after this first trip. Fast forward to Thursday night at 7pm, and we're circling the very dark parking lot three times to find an empty parking space (valet? really?). Then we're in the place, with a 25 minute wait. Grrrrr. Pressed against strangers for only 10 blessedly short minutes... to be led to the tiniest two top in the middle of this crazy, loud, filled to busting place. Drink please!!! This time we did the Calamari app (very good, but pricey and just not necessary), followed by the Texas burger for me and Fish and Chips for Ken. I did medium this time, nixed the BBQ sauce and swapped a regular bun for the Onion Roll = delish! Ken's fish made my eyes roll back in my head, but the onion rings he subbed for the fries, at a $2 upcharge, were just undercooked enough to be a disappointment (if we didn't know better, we would have thought they were good). Even after having such good fish, Ken thought my burger was the star and plans to stick with burgers in the future. Warning: beer menu does not include prices, and some are expensive. ASK before you get the Morimoto Black Soba... just saying...

One if by burgers and two if by fries... Red Coat Tavern lives up to its reputation as one of the best burger joints in Metro Detroit. Classier than most of the others on the list Red Coat boasts the Brassiere Burger for about $9. It comes without fries, and so on paper it looks expensive, but trust me, it's not. The Burger comes loaded with about five strips of thick bacon. If this restaurant had commercials, they would tell you it is Applewood Smoked Bacon - not the dumpster smoked bacon all those poor people at Applebees eat. The burger was also topped with caramelized onions although I am fairly certain no carmel was used in the cooking. The same goes for butterscotch. The usual suspects were also invited to the topping party. Fresh sliced tomatoe was on top of his game followed by crisp, dark green garnishy lettuce and weird-tasting dijon mustard. I normally don't mind dijon mustard but this mustard was strong - it may have just completed the P90X workouts. The overpowering mustard and the ala carte burger are the only reasons this place does not get a five. I prefer burgers that come with fries and a salad - so I feel like I am eating a rounded meal, and I am getting a bargain. Red Coat is clearly not the place to go for a bargain, but it is certainly worth the price. It is the rich man's burger on the list of best burgers. No greasy sliders here. A great place to get a glass of wine and try to impress your date. The service will likely be good as it was in my trip and the atmosphere is fairly upscale in a casual jeans with dress shoes sort of way.

Food was good, their drinks were strong, and their wine selection was good. We liked this location better than the one in royal oak. Parking here can be challenging at times but I think they might have valet, but don't remember. It's worth checking out.

Having been in the mood for a good burger, after some Google searching and a little Yelping, this place ended up being close by where I'm in town for business, so off I went. I was going to go for the standard Red Coat burger, but the Brasserie burger looked pretty good, so that's what I went with. 1/2lb of medium rare dripping juicy meat, 2 slices of tomato, some green leaf for lettuce that they called watercress (didn't look like watercress I've seen before, but what do I know), some thick/wide slices of sauteed onion, a goodly amount of thick bacon, mildly spicy dijon mustard, on a brioche bun. Sound good? It was pretty good, but not fantastic. The bacon had the texture of having been cooked previously and left to sit a bit, so it was not crisp, but a bit on the chewy side, and quite thick. The first bite was the best, and then it was all downhill. It's a big burger to be sure, but unless you plan on wolfing it down, or getting it well done to cut down on the juices, prepare for the bun to fall apart. Mind did half way through. The onions are pretty wide and thick and require a pretty good bite to get through them. Due to this a lot of my onion and the chewy bacon fell out before I was halfway through it. As noted on a previous review, this burger is stand alone. You want fries, you have to order them on the side and it's a heaping portion for about 4$. I also got some cole slaw that was tangy and creamy, but nothing fancy. All that with a Guinness (on tap) and my bill rang to about 23$. Not a cheap burger meal by any means, but definitely one to indulge in from time to time. This place used to be Zinc, and the decor still has an upscale look, but people were dressed from casual (I had blue jeans and a polo), to business casual (think dockers) to work dress clothes, so a pretty broad mix.
